Wynton Marsalis is a trumpeter, composer and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has promoted jazz music to young audiences. He has won nine Grammy Awards, and his jazz composition Blood on the Fields won the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He is the only artist to win a Grammy Award in classical and jazz in the same year.

Wynton Marsalis was the first family member to achieve national fame. He was given his first trumpet by Hirt when he was only six years old and studied both classical music and jazz.
